In September of last year, Candi Cherry attended a wedding and took note of the wineglass she was holding. “These are boring,” she thought. Cherry took off an earring she was wearing and held it up to the glass. “Better,” she decided. With that came the inspiration for The Queens’ Jewels, her line of decorated wine glasses.
A stay at home mom, Cherry quickly went to work. By November she launched the business out of her home and created several designs based on her friends and their interests. Knowing she wanted a partner to run the books, she approached her mother-in-law, Janine Vires, who agreed to act as the bookkeeper and manage the finances.
In December, Cherry and Vires took their glasses to a few holiday shows. Priced at $25 each, they flew off the table. In the past 10 months, they have created 40 designs but narrowed the line to 24. Ranging from their signature crown logo to soccer balls, seahorses to horseshoes, the collection offers something for everyone.
Since the launch, The Queens’ Jewels glasses have been picked up by several area shops, including Chandler Hill, Veritas Gateway to Food and Wine, Cats Meow, and Tack Trunk among others. The glasses are also available by contacting them directly (314-616-1904, [email protected]).
To date, Cherry and Vires have sold approximately 1,200 glasses to customers in 25 states and in Canada.
Cherry says launching the business has set a terrific example for her kids, ages 14 and 11. Having never worked outside the home, Cherry, 41, believes she is showing her children you are never too old to find your passion, or follow your dreams.
